Why SPF helps fighting spam

SPF, short for Sender Policy Framework, is one of the many ways to fight spam. It’s based on verifying insecure data (mail) with secure data (dns). SPF is a check that is performed on the receiving mailserver. SPF fights the type of spam that sends via open (or hacked) mailservers which use forged sender addresses. Although many servers have it activated for the insecure incoming mail, many people configure the secure part in the DNS wrong.
